2010 Men’s Member-Guest Participants

The annual Men’s Member/Guest was attended by 40 studs on a recent Saturday afternoon. In keeping with the fraternity theme, a few members invited “little brothers” to the competition in order to compensate for their own shortcomings on the courts. The spoof on Rancho Santa Fe to Rho Sigma Phi (R.S.F. in Greek) was lost on some. Posters decorating the clubhouse were of questionable taste but all agreed that Brett’s BBQ with Beer tasted delicious. Winners: Division I: Sam Todd and Jacob Johnson, Division II:Craig McAllister and Paul Schulte. Runners-up: Division I:Steve Leonard and Derek Miller, Division II: Bill Matzinger and Jay Carmel. “Shot of the Day” award went to guest player Mike Perodowski.

Great weather, great food, great people- it all came together on a recent afternoon of mixed doubles on the tennis club courts. The younger laddies and lassies enjoyed a clinic given by Betsy Endries while the adults progressed on the upper courts. The top court was held by Scott Appleby/Orva Harwood and Scott deGoler/Wendy Henry playing for the Mixed Doubles championship – won by Degoler/Henry. This was followed by an exhilarating exhibition with James Conda and Brett Davis vs. Derek Miller and Allison Bradshaw. Members rooted for their favorite pro while imbibing beer and traditional Irish food on the patio. Entertainer extraordinaire, Dominic Archdale, displayed his off court talent by singing a few Irish ballads and strumming his guitar. Those not wearing green had to stay late and help clean up.

Summer Silver Celebration

Thank you for joining us as we celebrated Dophie Poiset’s 25th anniversary as tennis professional at the Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Club. Dophie began in April 1984 as tennis instructor and went on to teach many members of our community, both youth and adults over the years. Dophie is well recognized in the tennis community as evidenced by her award “Professional of the Year” in 2002 which was presented by the Southern California Tennis Association, San Diego District.  A San Diego native who now lives in Cardiff, Dophie grew up in a tennis family. Her mother was a nationally ranked senior tennis player and a grand prix umpire. Poiset began playing at age eight and as a junior tennis player became a national champion. She played number one singles at San Diego State University. Currently, she serves as President of the San Diego Chapter of the U.S.P.T.A.

Our celebration of Dophie’s career at Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Club begin with a tennis mixer, followed by a casual BBQ on the patio including cake and coffee.

September 1, 2009

TO: Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Club Board and Club Members:

I would like extend a very heart-felt thank you to all of you for the incredibly memorable “Sliver Celebration” Party you gave me this past Sunday afternoon.   It was so nice to have all my tennis friends, students-past and present, and family celebrating my many wonderful at the Club.   It was fun to recall through the picture display all the past events of my tennis playing and teaching career, and the many fun times we have had together at the Club.

Please accept my most sincere thank you for the wonderfully generous gift you presented to me.  I have admired Robyn’s Wilkinson’s beautiful paintings at the clubhouse, and will now be able to enjoy my most favorite one for many years to come.

I have always considered myself an extremely fortunate person to be able to work in such beautiful area for so long among so many friends, both old and young, while teaching and introducing a game so close to my heart.  I believe your Club with its beautiful ambience is one of the finest in the country.

I come to work every day with a smile on my face, grateful for the wonderful opportunity I have to serve as your club tennis professional.  It has been 25 years incredible years!  I look forward to many more years of fun tennis with all of you.

Thanks again, and happy hitting!
